Get out your tissues lads, it’s an emotional moment!

From April 15th 2010 you will no longer be able to get online with your Original Xbox as they are discontinuing the Xbox Live Service. Sad times.

Major Nelson Quotes:

I wanted to let you know that on April 15, 2010 Microsoft will discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360. Our first step in this process will be to turn off auto-renewals for those members who only use Xbox LIVE on a v1 Xbox. While I can’t comment on the specifics, this change will allow us to continue evolving the LIVE service with new features and experiences that fully harness the power of Xbox 360 and the Xbox LIVE community. We did not make this decision lightly, but after careful consideration and review we realize that this decision will allow us unprecedented flexibility for future features.

So here comes bigger friend lists! Woop Woop!

Microsoft’s formerly-annual show is apparently back and appearing in the good ol’ US of A for the first time!

Long ago, back in 2001, the days before a big, heavy, whirring (but exciting) black box known as the “Xbox” had been released; it’s developer Microsoft decided to run a live show to promote it and it’s upcoming titles.

After the success of the adequately-titled X01, Microsoft decided to make this an annual tradition: each year the company would do a show in a different European city, promoting the biggest in-house and independent titles and updates for the coming year.

Then, in 2004, it never happened! Microsoft didn’t do the show at all! Then, in 2005, it returned…but only for this and then another the following year before disappearing once again. (Well, technically it just moved to Canada for X07 & X08 but everyone ignored it)  Well now it’s back in the limelight!

On February 11th, Microsoft X10 will be hosted by the city of San Francisco; the first time a location in the US has held the festivities! At this year’s show, Microsoft should hopefully be giving people a brief look/listen/sniff of the following, before E3 steals all the biggest stories…

Alan Wake (which was actually first shown at X06!), Crackdown 2, Fable III, Halo: Reach, Splinter Cell Conviction (which was announced at X06!), Final Fantasy and drum-roll please and fingers crossed…Project Natal!

Exciting stuff but all I wonder is, how long will the X show last this time before dying another brief death?

All the info here as soon as we get it…

The photo above is me and my lover, crying about the fact that I can’t currently play on Max Payne (Which is now available on the Xbox Originals!) because I don’t have a working Xbox – currently.

So Its now available for an amazing 1200 Microsoft Points – Which is totally worth it, so do it, or I’ll kill your whole family.

Why The Xbox (1) Died so Early

Peter Moore’s revealed that Xbox’s hard drive cost $70 per unit, and was the main reason the machine was prematurely dropped in favour of Xbox 360.

“Not having a hard drive in every Xbox 360 was a hard decision, but we wanted to get price under control,” he said. “The hard drive in every Xbox killed us; we we’re still selling it at $199 and the hard drive was like $70. That’s why we prematurely left the original Xbox, because the more we were selling – there was still great demand – it was killing us, and there was no way to bring the price down.
