One of my first gaming memories is waking up on Christmas day and opening up my brand new Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog 2 bundle and it was great and I was about 8 maybe younger. You see games were simpler then and sometimes I think just more FUN in those days however I don’t think I had any favourite games back then, I love Sonic and still kind of do but he’s almost dead to me now.
So what is my favourite game and why?
Okay is is where someone finds me a kills me in my sleep, as my favourite game is still little misunderstood still after all these years, the game being of course Final Fantasy 8 and there’s a little story to why this is my favourite game.
Back in the day when the PS1 was king still my house was burgled and one of the things they took was my old PS1 (RIP) and all my games, it was not until the insuresers paid off I got a new PS1 Slim and one of the games I had received was Final Fantasy 8 and I started a long slippery slope into what would become my gaming habits, it was and I still think is the only Final Fantasy let alone JRPGS I have ever finished and still think about today, and the thing that made it so good was the story and the atmosphere and I fell in love with the characters every single one of them that’s why.
Into the future and beyond
Of course after Final Fantasy 8 there was the PS2 and Xbox and the only title that I can think of that stood out in that GEN was Knights of the old republic and that was that until the Xbox 360 came about and BOOM! right out the gate came Elders Scrolls Oblivion from Bethesda Softworks and then after that Mass Effect from Bioware and Fallout 3 and next week I will be drooling all over Mass Effect 2 oh and not to forget my GOTY last year Dragon age Origins.
Now What is the one thing they all have in common well they all are great character driven RPG’s That’s what I look for in a game and why none RPGs always fail for me they don’t seem to be able to tell a story just look at Modern warfare 2’s story or lack of story in fact if it had a story it didn’t make much sense.
With every games retailer boasting their biggest sale ever how do we know where to spend our hard earned cash?, also if its their biggest sale ever…. doesn’t that mean surely by now we should be able to get pretty much anything we want for like a pound, sales have been going on for a quite a while?
Well TFMX can at least answer one of those questions, after spending many hours scouting the high streets and online shops one of the best sales we have come across is from the once forgotten chain Zavvi, who have been reborn and they’re online store is set to flourish. They’re low prices is obviously a very aggressive strategy to help re-establish themselves as a leading media retailer. What does this mean? Low prices on everything for everyone……..well at least for a short time. So Digbert’s tip of the week is to check out the re-launched Zavvi sale and grab yourself a bargain similar to these examples.
Oh my god. Yes, I’m back from my two-ish week hiatus and thank god – living without a PC is flipping hard.
So what have I been up to? Well, I took a lovely trip to Renaissance in Italy and killed a few people after they killed my father and two brothers. Oh and not to forget killing some horrid darkspwan that invaded my country of Ferelden. In other words, I’ve been playing Assassins Creed 2 and Dragon Age: Origins.
Happy New Year from me Digbert and everybody at TFMX.co.uk.
