The entire forecourt of Last Stop Ltd near Finsbury Park, North London was completely transformed into that of a military style bunker, with jeeps, oil barrels, sandbag walls, and fully costumed actors on hand to pump the petrol for the customers.
Obviously this called a bit of a stir…
Including some Politician Prat
Liberal democrat MP Lynne Featherstone was not so enthusiastic. She commented, “Whilst a lucky few might have got some free petrol, hundreds of local residents have faced misery on their daily journeys this morning…. They deserve an apology for being the victims of such an ill-thought out media stunt.” Of course, with gas costs as high as they are, can you blame people for rushing out with such zeal to get fuel for free? Or EA for knowing that they would and knowing it would reflect well on their game?
Then the BBC - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7600307.stm
But lets ignore all the bad things and thankfully our Friend from EA PR, Louise Marchant was there to comment on just how good an idea the ’stunt’ was!
Louise Marchant, from Electronic Arts, said the scenes of queuing mimicked aspects of the game.
She explained: “It’s set in Venezuela, you play a mercenary and fuel is used as a currency.”
